1) Please tell something about your organization and your key achievements & benefits you provide.
The Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) is the National Tourism Agency of Jamaica, promoting Jamaica as a tourism destination worldwide. The JTB’s activities serve to complement those of the private sector.
The Mission of the JTB is “To develop and market the tourist industry so that Jamaica remains the premier Caribbean tourism destination”.
The JTB’s main functions include the following:
promoting all aspects of the tourist industry in Jamaica securing the most favourable arrangements for the entry of tourists in Jamaica advertising and publicising Jamaica as a tourist resort throughout the year. The Jamaica Tourist Board is the most preferred point of contact for persons travelling to Jamaica. The organization markets the uniqueness and diversity of Destination JAMAICA through creative programmes and advertisements worldwide. Throughout the years, the JTB has been recognized for its exceptional leadership and outstanding service with accolades from industry and trade partners both regionally and internationally. Operationally,the organization is headed by a Director of Tourism and maintains a network of offices and representatives in Jamaica, the USA, UK, Canada, Spain, Germany, Italy, India, China and Japan.
2) What are the top 3 most valuable benefits visitors can expect if they plan a visit to the destination and organization you represent?

A unique hospitable experience, value for money and rich cultural diversity. Jamaica is well known for its warm hospitable people and offers a holiday to meet every budget. Historically, our culture combines elements of the different nationalities which have steeled on the island, including aspects of the Indian culture..

3) Most of our readers are vegetarian. They don’t eat meat, fish or eggs. Do you have facilities for vegetarian food near the popular tourist destinations?

Most of our food service providers offer vegetarian options.

4) Which are the websites in English that gives information about destination and various tourist attractions?

www.visitjamaica.com provide information on Destination Jamaica while www.jtbonline.org is an information portal providing information on the JTB and the Jamaican tourist industry.

5) Do you find that Asian Indians visit often visit the destination that you represent?

The number of Indian visitors to Jamaica is growing. For 2008, there was an increase of XXX% in Indian visitors to the destination over 2007.

6) Do you provide an online facility or blogging platform for visitors to leave their experience?

We do not offer this facility at present on the JTB site. However, visitors may leave their experience on Trip Advisor or any other such site, which we monitor.

8) What opportunities do you provide to experienced travel & hotel entrepreneurs to invest? Is there any website or Govt. agency responsible for channeling investments?

Jamaica Trade and Invest is the agency with responsibility for channeling investments to the island. The website for Jamaica Trade and Invest is www.jti.org.jm

9) Do you have Asian Indian association, temple or population nearby?

There is an established Indian population on the island ….

10) What advertising & marketing method you use to reach out to potential tourists and investors? Which medium is the most effective medium?

The JTB uses an integrated marketing strategy with advertising, public relations, sales and promotional activities dovetailing into one message. These integrated tactics are used to reach the travel trade as well as consumers. There is significant partnership between the JTB and the JTI, especially on tourism related projects.

11) What does most visitors and guests enjoy the most when they visit your destination?

hospitality, diversity, variety of vacation options, attractions.

12) Are you using Wikipedia, Social Media Network & other Web2.0 tools to boost the flow of tourists?

Currently, we do not use these tools but there are plans to incorporate selected tools in our strategy.
